The Mentholatum Company, Inc. was founded in 1889 in Wichita, Kansas. Starting out as a small purveyor of soaps and toiletries, Mentholatum grew into an international manufacturer and marketer of non-prescription drugs and healthcare products. With headquarters located in Orchard Park, NY, Mentholatum operates in 23 countries all over the world, including Australia, South Africa, Canada, Scotland, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, China, India and Japan and has products available to customers in more than 130 countries.
The company, privately held for 99 years, was acquired in 1988 by Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. from Osaka, Japan. Rohto is a major player in the Japanese pharmaceutical market with top selling products in eye care, topical and stomach relief categories. The Rohto and Mentholatum names are synonymous with the highest standards of quality and innovation.
Mentholatum arrived to the Latin American market approximately in the 20’s to Peru, in the 30’s to Ecuador and in the 50’s to Colombia, Nicaragua and Chile. Today we are very proud of how much our presence in Latin America has grown and of the dynamics of our business and partners that we were able to build through the years and continue to build today.
With high quality products in the categories of cough and cold, skin care, lip care, pain relief and others, Mentholatum has one subsidiary in Mexico, three licensees in the region and distributors in Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.
